Someone asked what was Vibe Coding.
My improvised answer:
👉 "AI-aided semi-automatic creation of tech debt."
Would you agree?
💬 The term "Vibe Coding" was originally coined by Andrej Karpathy - computer scientist and co-founder of OpenAI - to describe a natural-language-driven approach to coding. Instead of typing code line-by-line, you describe what you want in plain English (or via voice), and the AI does the heavy lifting.
Andrej Karpathy is very respectable. In his words:
"It's not really coding – I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy-paste stuff, and it mostly works."
However, when people with little to no programming experience use the term to describe what they’re doing, it is misleading. Karpathy and folks like Pieter Levels operate at a peak level of competence, intuition and context that most users of LLMs don’t have.
I've found corroborating evidence to what I thought:
💥 several studies on GitHub Copilot have highlighted security issues on AI-generated code - error or vulnerability rates in the 20-40% range.
