Windsurf Editor is an agentic IDE competitor to Microsoft Copilot and Cursor.

Here are a few differences and similarities:

Both Windsurf and Cursor leverage Claude 3.5 Sonnet for AI code completions, editing and chat‑with‑code. Windsurf UI is less busy than Cursor.

Windsurf is cheaper at $15/month (Cursor is $20).

In Cursor you have to pick a file to include as context for the chat, while Windsurf automatically indexes and pulls relevant code for context.
On the other hand, Cursor supports adding as context documents, web pages, Git branches, web searches, which is more advanced than Windsurf's indexing.

Windsurf hides code differences behind an “Open Diff” button, asks for approval to changes after testing and has an easier way to reverse the changes.
In Cursor you have to accept the changes before seeing the results.
